The Flash Season 1 Review

Best TV show ever? Definitely best comic book TV show!

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco, Jesse L Martin as Joe West, Candice Patton as Iris West and Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne.

The Flash follows the life of Barry Allen after his mother was killed by something when he was child and his dad was arrested for her murder. We pick up the show when Barry has been living with family friend Joe West and Joe’s daughter, Iris. Then one day when Harrison Wells turns on the particle accelerator at Star Labs it goes wrong in the middle of a thunder storm where Barry is struck by lightning and put in a coma. He awakens months later to find that he has super speed. So after learning how to control his powers, he looks to find other people who gained super powers and tries to help them or defeat them as The Flash along with Star Labs scientists Harrison Wells, Caitlin Snow and Cisco. While this is going on he has to deal with his love, Iris, being with Detective Eddie Thawne who works alongside Joe and Barry looks into the mysterious murder of his mum. The show takes many twists and turns and can get slightly complicated with the science going on but it is usually explained well by Cisco for the audience by using references to the likes of Back to the Future and The Terminator.

The Flash is set in the same universe as Arrow, and the upcoming shows Legends of Tomorrow and Vixen, which means there are plenty of crossovers and the 2 shows do tie in but not too much that you have to watch both (but you should). The Green Arrow himself crosses over a few times as well as Felicity Smoak and you get Barry going on Arrow. There are many good villains which I won’t spoil but set up an amazing future for the next season. There also many good guest stars like the previously mentioned Stephen Amell as the Arrow, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, John Wesley Shipp as Barry’s Dad and Mark Hamill (Yes, LUKE SKYWALKER!) reprising his role as the Trickster.

Overall, I rate The Flash season 1 as 9/10, it is the only show on TV which I would say is as good as Game of Thrones. Maybe that is just because I love comics. The CGI is good considering it has a small budget and the performances by everyone are amazing. Because the show is 23 episodes long, it can be a bit slow sometimes but there are many moments which are absolutely incredible and some of the best TV moments ever! It really makes me wish that the TV show and Movie universes where together because Grant Gustin is perfect as the Flash and I just don’t know how the film is gonna beat it.
