Arrow Season 3 Review

Batman with a bow and arrow and green.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/The Arrow, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, Paul Blackthorne as Quentin Lance, Colton Haynes as Roy Harper and John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn.

Season 3 picks up and Team Arrow are a proper team. Diggle, The Arrow and Arsenal are going around stopping crime. Then out of nowhere someone gets murdered and you think that Team Arrow will be hunting for the murderer for the season but the season takes a turn and loosely links it to the murder and Ra’s Al Ghul becomes the new Foe for the season. The mid season finale when Oliver and Ra’s meet for the first time was incredible but that leads to a big big shock which when the show came back they didn’t really deal with and the problem is solved very quickly. Then we spend the rest of the season with Ra’s Al Ghul’s offer to Oliver. There is a couple of twists this season but apart from the mid season finale and the first episode there wasn’t anything too spectacular. Oliver spends a lot of time away from the rest of the team which just doesn’t feel right. When he comes back he is soon gone again and I felt that, that didn’t work. We get Laurel training up to become Black Canary in Sara’s absence and Thea being trained by Merlyn. These both feel forced and they some how become very skilled very quickly.

Season 3 for me did not feel as good as season 2. Maybe because season 2 was so epic and had an amazing villain for the whole season and Oliver was actually with his team. The Season finishes nicely wrapped up which I really didn’t like because I felt, unlike Flash, that I wasn’t asking any questions. I hope the show learns to find a good balance of being dark like season 2 and perhaps being light hearted like Flash. The episodes mentioned plus the crossovers where the strongest episodes this season and the performances were good as usual but i’m not sure where season 4 is going to go.

Overall, season 3 was a step down for me so I rate it 7/10. It was still a very good show but it was not as consistent as it was in season 2.
