Her Review

If it wasn’t obvious, I love sci fi!

Her stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Bill Hader, Wristen Wiig and Rooney Mara. Not a bad cast.

Her is the story about Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with an extremely advanced operating system called Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). The film shows us that they are pretty much a normal couple and it makes you feel that way, but it deals with how dating an operating system is weird and all the problems that go with dating something you can’t touch, only talk to.

Most of the film is spent with Theodore, so we see it from his perspective and you come to really feel for this guy and care about him. Joaquin’s performance was amazing and carries the film very well in every way. We also see the development of Samantha as she becomes smarter and gets used to being an operating system, but Samantha still feels like a proper human character with feelings. The use of colour throughout the film is really good, as was the score for the film. My main flaw of the film was that I did not like the ending. It felt too predictable and wanted to wrap everything up nicely. Because I related so much to Theodore, I wanted it to feel like real life, which it did for most of the film, so I wanted the realistic ending instead of the Hollywood ending. It is another film that makes you think about life and has alot of deeper meaning behind if you look for it.

Overall, I rate Her 9/10! The performances were great and really made this film as incredible as it is! Another must see film, that makes it into my top 10 films of all time! Yes, I love science fiction films!
