Boyhood Review

And the Oscar for most over rated and boring film goes to….. Boyhood!

Boyhood stars Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, Elijah Smith, Ethan Hawke and Lorelei Linklater.

Yes I am probably the only person who has seen this film who didn’t like it! Boyhood tells the story of a boy called Mason (played by Ellar Coltrane) and it shows him growing up going through things that boys go through and dealing with his family life. That’s it really. The cast does a good job, yes fair enough giving Patricia Arquette the Oscar for playing the Mum she kills it! Good on her. The mum especially goes through a lot of tough stuff through the first divorce then gets a lot worse in her second relationship! And the twatty step dad was predictable! Maybe i have just seen too many films and predicted it! I would tell you what happens but not that much happens to be honest.

I’m going to be honest it bored me! I respect that the film took 12 years to make cos they film liked a week for 12 years but is that really a big deal? When you think about it, it isn’t really!  It doesn’t deserve to be nominated for an Oscar, but it didn’t win anyway! I think most people are looking at it the same way they looked at Avatar when they knew that took 10 years to make! Ethan Hawke shouldn’t be nominated he did an okay performance, but like the film, he didn’t blow me away!

It would have been incredible to see it not have any cuts like Birdman but i guess cos of the time difference between scenes that isn’t technically possible.

Overall, I rate Boyhood 5/10. Just didn’t interest me! if i wanted to see family life on screen I would watch soaps like Eastenders! I like films that feel real but this felt too much like a real life and a boring life at that. Maybe it’s just my personal opinion but I wanna be taken out of what I know and see something to get my away from normal life. Sorry Boyhood
