The Man from U.N.C.L.E Review

A higher class of hero!

The Man from U.N.C.L.E stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Luca Calvani and Hugh Grant. Also there is a cameo from David Beckham if you can spot him.

In 1963, CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) must work together to prevent a criminal organisation from constructing and using Nuclear weapons. The pair find Gaby (Alicia Vikander), daughter of vanished German scientist. They must work together to find Gaby’s missing father and stop the organisation from starting world war 3. Can the duo work together and trust each other before it is too late?

Like any other Guy Ritchie film, this movie is a lot of fun. You get a lot of typical Guy Ritchie cinematography and it looks amazing. The performances by everyone in this film are really good. Henry’s american accent and Armie’s russian accents are pretty good. They are noticeable but they don’t take you out of the film at all. Armie Hammer did really well in this film I think, he got criticism for The Lone Ranger but he did well in The Social Network, but in this I thought he did really well and I really liked his character. Alicia Vikander puts on a great performance as always. She is really being an amazing actress and I have no doubt she will be earning an Oscar in the coming years. The car chase near the beginning was great, but there is a boat scene that lasts slightly too long I thing. The comedy doesn’t always hit, there are a couple of really funny bits but then there are parts when it just tries to be too clever. There are a couple of twists in the films and the reveals are good, I like having that sort of reveal when something was going on but you don’t see it or hear it, but the one at the end was in such a short space it didn’t quite work for me.

Overall, I rate The Man from U.N.C.L.E 7/10! I would really like it if they made a sequel for it because I think they could do better but this one works well on its own.

P.S. Henry Cavill is obviously Superman and Armie Hammer nearly played Batman, so this film was pretty much Batman V Superman

What did you think of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.?
