The Dark Knight Rises Review

The end to The Dark Knight trilogy!

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy.

8 years after the events of The Dark Knight, and Gotham is doing well, after Batman (Christian Bale) retires when he takes the fall for the death of Harvey Dent. However, the peace doesn’t last for much longer. Bane (Tom Hardy) arrives in Gotham to let the people know who Harvey Dent really was and give the people their freedom in the city. But with Bruce Wayne, hanging up the cape and cowl, he has barely left the newly rebuilt Wayne manor. But with Bane taking over the city, Batman must rise again and stop the criminal, with a few allies. Can he trust his new allies and can they stop the seemingly unstoppable strength of Bane?

After The Dark Knight was a success critically and with everyone, fans went into The Dark Knight Rises with the highest of expectations at least matching the amazing-ness of the previous film in the trilogy. Unfortunately, this film split opinions. Some love it as much if not better than The Dark Knight, and others really were quite let down but accept that it is still a good film. So what went wrong? Well I don’t think the story is as good. I know that Batman is an amazing character but some of things he does are unrealistic for the realistic world that these films were supposed to be set in. I think that this film was the most comic book like out of the trilogy. I didn’t like the twist as to who the child of Ra’s Al Ghul was, I didn’t see it coming and for me it ruined the movie and everything that came after that suffered. I didn’t feel the cast performed as well as they did in the last one, however I really liked Tom Hardy as Bane, Bane for me was the best part of the film. The film is pretty long and you notice it, which is never a good thing. I think that it is because they couldn’t have stopped Bane the same way they stopped The Joker. The Dark Knight was filled with more detective work whereas with Bane you could only beat him by fighting him. I didn’t like the ending, it just doesn’t make sense. Yes he is Batman but there is no explanation for that.

Overall, I rate The Dark Knight Rises 8/10! It really didn’t help the film that we got The Avengers in the same year. I think that it is a suitable ending to the trilogy and what an amazing trilogy it was!

What did you think of The Dark Knight Rises? What is your favourite film in the trilogy?
