Captain America: Civil War Review (No Spoilers)

Team Cap Versus Team Iron Man! Choose a side!

Captain America Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd and Daniel Bruhl.

After The Avengers cause another number of deaths while on a mission, the governments of the world join together and decide that the Avengers need to be held accountable and be directed by the government. This idea splits the Avengers, resulting in Captain America leading one team and Tony Stark leading the government led side. While the teams are fighting, they must also deal with the return of The Winter Soldier and Baron Zemo.

This film does a lot of things right! In fact, I would say it is my second favourite Marvel Studios movie (Just behind Guardians of the Galaxy, but it is close!). Because the universe has been built so well, you really care about every character you see and you feel like there are real stakes when they are fighting and you spend a lot of the film struggling as to which side is the right side to be on. Going into the film I was Team Cap, but during the film I found myself changing sides because these are 2 teams of heroes fighting. Part of the reason for that are the performances by everyone in the film are perhaps the best they have done in any of the Marvel films. The stand out for me was Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, I liked her character in Age of Ultron but I came out of the film feeling like her character grew the most and I really felt for the character. As a big Spider-man fan, I was obviously looking forward to seeing the MCU version of the webslinger and I was not disappointed, they got the character spot on and I can’t wait to see him again next year. Another stand out was Black Panther, a character who really intrigued me and left me wanting to see more of him.

The action in the film I think is the best superhero action that we have got and we might ever get. The scene at the airport, I believe, is the best comic book moment we have ever seen, and it will be incredibly hard to beat! That is all I am going to say on that.

The only thing that was disappointing was Zemo. Like all Marvel villains, apart from Loki, he was under developed and he felt wasted. Zemo’s role in the film could have been done by one of the heroes or at least by a smaller character from the comics.

Overall, I rate Captain America Civil War 9/10! Very near perfect film! Thank you Batman V Superman for being the reason we got this film!
