Patriot’s Day Review

The inside story of the world’s greatest manhunt.

Patriot’s Day stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J. K. Simmons, Melissa Benoist, Alex Wolff and Themo Melikidze.

This film follows the true events of the Boston Marathon bombings and the manhunt that followed tracking down the people behind the attack. Tommy Saunders, and the rest of the Boston Police Department, team up with he FBI in order to track down the people behind the attack, before they escape the city and head to another city for more attacks.

Positives. I thought the use of found footage cameras worked really well. With a lot of the shots you are left wondering which of the footage shown is actually found footage from the real events or shots that were recreated for the film. The cast was good, you could see that they wanted to be a part of showing the world the events that happened and I was particularly impressed about how they looked like the people they were portraying. The message is clear and you really feel for the characters and because of the nature of the events you are hoping the people behind the attacks are caught even though you know they will be. I also felt the action was good and you really feel the impact of the blasts and the shootouts that happen.

Negatives. I think the pacing again was a slight probably, at times it dips and that takes you out the movie. The run time is about two and a quarter hours and I felt like there were some parts that could have been cut just to reduce the run time slightly.

A moving story which the heroes behind this investigation deserve.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
