Ghost in the Shell Review

Based on the huge anime film.

Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt and Chin Han.

After Major dies in an accident, her brain is put into a new, robotic body, where she becomes an enhanced soldier to stop criminals. When a terrorist hacks a businessman’s brain, Major is the only one who can stop the terrorist, who reveals truths about her past that she needs to know.

Positives. The biggest positive of the film is the impressive city that the film takes place in. The look of the futuristic city is brilliant, it looks amazing and feels natural and something that could happen in the future. The action is good, there isn’t as much as I would have liked to have seen but what we do get is really good but it is all stuff we have seen Scarlett Johansson do before.

Negatives. The film falls a bit flat. The concept is very strong but I think it suffers by not really having a villain and being too slow at times. They set the villain up in the beginning to be someone to be the big bad throughout the film and I liked his character but then he disappears and doesn’t reappear til the end of the film. The first act is okay, but I would have liked to see longer action scenes but the second and last act, really slow the film down with little action, where it just leaves the film feeling like a generic action film that we have seen a lot of times.

Some good moments, visual amazing but mostly disappointing.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
