Transformers: The Last Knight Review

For one world to live, the other must die.

Transformers: The Last Knight stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Josh Duhamel, Santiago Cabrera and Isabela Moner.

Transformers are being hunted down after the devastating recent attacks on Earth. Optimus Prime has left and the Autobots are left to survive along with Cade Yeager who is also on the run from the government. They must look for ancient artifact to stop Cybertron from returning.

Positives. Like all Transformers films, this film looks great. I have always been impressed by the CGI used in this franchise, I know a lot of people don’t like the look of the Transformers but I appreciate what they have done. The only real standout performance was Anthony Hopkins. He carries this film by himself and the film would be lesser without him.  He is hilarious and has numerous lines I never thought that I would hear him say.

Negatives. The story. The story is where the last couple of Transformers films have suffered. I enjoyed the first two Transformers films but since then I haven’t had any fun watching the films. This film, and Age of Extinction, just go on for too long and the plot is too stretched out. There was also a lot of nods/stealing from other films. A group of four kids (Stranger Things), a girl with no parents with a small droid (The Force Awakens), pointless character titles for villains (Suicide Squad). But the most annoying thing was how the ratio kept changing. This film was made for Imax, but I didn’t get to see it in the Imax where I live, so I knew there would be certain scenes that would change for Imax screens but it isn’t scenes, within scenes, within seconds it will go between different sized ratios multiple times and after it happened once I kept noticing it and it took me out of the film.

I do think a good Transformers movie could be made, but I am glad different directors are being brought into the franchise to hopefully give the franchise new life.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
