Annabelle: Creation Review

You don’t know the real story!

Annabelle: Creation stars Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Stephanie Sigman, Miranda Otto, Anthony LaPaglia, Grace Fulton and Philippa Coulthard.

Twelve years after their daughter dies in an accident, Mr and Mrs Mullins welcome an orphanage into their home. One of the girls soon discovers mysterious things going on in the house surrounding an evil doll, Annabelle.

Positives. It is definitely better than the first one. The main thing this film does well is building tension. There are a lot of moments throughout the film where it lets your mind fill in gaps before a scare that works and that is the best thing, something that The Conjuring films do very well, and the first Annabelle film didn’t. And I have to say I don’t jump easily, because I always see the jump scare coming, but I jumped once so I give it props for doing making me jump once.

Negatives. The second half of the film is where this film really suffers. Once the reveal of what is going on in this house is made and who is behind it, the film dips and, for me, was no longer scary. The first half was great, had great potential to go on and be on the same level as The Conjuring films but I felt like the reveal should have happened later in the film. This film also decides to have a mid credit scene and a post credit scene which both suck, neither of them are scaring and don’t set up anything new, that I didn’t already know was coming.

SPOILER ALERT. Don’t read this paragraph if you don’t want to know anymore about the film. Okay, so my problem is the stupid demon. It takes the film out of reality and meant that I was no longer scared. I was more scared of the little girl, which I think they should have used more and more scared of Annabelle, who only really has a small role in the film. I don’t like the look of the demon and I don’t really understand the rules of this demon as to what it can do, as it is in more than once place in the end and can change the appearance of a little girl into a tall demon then back. I think they should have made Janice become friends with the little girl and Annabelle, before revealing a demon behind it.

A solid horror film, that will give you a fix until IT is released at the beginning of September.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
