Halloween has gone which apparently means it is time for Christmas films. Now I don’t like most Christmas films, it always feels too forced for the film to be set at that time of year and the story always seems to be pretty similar.
This time the cast of Bad Moms return for a festive sequel, the three mums all have their mothers turn up at their houses in time for Christmas this year and cause mayhem for the families and their lives.
The first Bad Moms was a surprisingly decent comedy, it wasn’t great but you can have a decent time. I didn’t need a sequel to the first one though, when they announced this film I was surprised that it was coming and not overly looking forward to it and I was expecting it to be pretty similar to the first one.
What works about this film in this film is the characters. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn are great in the first film and the addition of having their mums is fun and makes sense with the time of year. Susan Sarandon, Christine Baranski and Cheryl Hines have great chemistry with their on-screen daughters, and each other, and fit their roles brilliantly and kind of steal the film, and if there was to be another film in this franchise I would like to see these Grandmothers having their own adventure. Kathryn Hahn really stood out in the first one, so I was worried that they were going to use her too much in this film, but she is used the perfect amount and provides a lot of laughs for the film.
Speaking of laughs, the comedy in this film is very hit or miss. There are a lot of moments which work well and are hilarious, unfortunately there were also a lot of jokes that don’t work and completely miss the mark. For me, it was about 50/50 but there will at least be something you laugh at because of how ridiculous it is. This is not a family friendly film, there are a lot of very dirty jokes so be prepared for that, but there aren’t too much as to where it becomes over the top and too much at times.
Overall, this film is a good time but some people will enjoy it more than others. I don’t need to see another film following the original three mums but I would be interested if they did the grandmothers.
