Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard was a surprise hit in the summer of 2017, when everyone realised that yes, they would watch anything with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson in. The film was fun and had some solid action in, but it was the great chemistry between the two leads that got butts in seats and audiences having a good time, going onto make about six times the film’s budget, it was inevitable that the film would get a sequel.

This time around it’s Kincaid’s wife, Sonia (Salma Hayek) that brings Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) back into the complicated and unique world of bodyguarding a hitman, as they get caught up in a plot that looks to cause chaos in Europe.

Once again the chemistry and talent of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson is enough to carry the film, apart from this time they are joined by Salma Hayek, who only had a small role in the first film. This time she certainly proves she is more than a damsel in distress, not that you’d ever think that of Salma Hayek, who we will see again this year, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in The Eternals.

The first one had a solid villain performance by Gary Oldman, which was over the top but you could tell he had a good time being there and being apart of the film. This time it’s Salma Hayek’s Desperado co-star Antonio Banderas, who for me was one of the weaker parts of the film, he doesn’t have a big role and felt like it was just a nice easy pay check for him, particularly as the character is just another version of Gary Oldman’s character. The real threat comes from Tom Hopper and Kristofer Kamiyasu’s characters who should’ve just been the antagonists of the film and I would’ve liked to see more of.

It’s a solid film, down to sense of humour, you won’t enjoy it if you’re going to watch action, Nobody and Fast and Furious 9 will be better for that, but if you want a nice easy watch with some decent jokes and fun actors then you will doubt enjoy this film. There will probably be another one of these but I do think that they should just leave it at 2, not as if the actors are lacking for job offers.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
